It's no secret that Game of Thrones was huge for HBO, with the first series' finale making for HBO's biggest night ever. House of the Dragon is already well on its way down the same path, Deadline reports.

The House of the Dragon season finale pulled in 9 million viewers (despite the episode leaking ahead of its premiere), according to HBO across both linear broadcast and streaming platforms.

"We're so thrilled to see House of the Dragon catch fire with Game of Thrones fans around the world, as well as new viewers who are discovering the world of Westeros for the first time," said Casey Bloys, CEO and Chairman of HBO and HBO Max in a statement. "Congrats to [author] George [R. R. Martin], [showrunners] Ryan [Condal], Miguel [Sapochnik], and the whole House of the Dragon team on an incredible first season.
