Sunnyside

Billing itself as a game that "bridges the gap between tradition and modernism," SunnySide is a Japanese-inspired RPG farm sim that sends players to rural Japan to tend to a once-forgotten plot of land. While you can use technology to keep in touch with friends, shop online, and research new recipes, you'll get the chance to embrace a slower lifestyle as you tend to your animals, grow plants, and get to know (and perhaps even woo) your community.

Life By You

Have you ever wished that The Sims games were a bit more open and less reliant on expansion packs to keep things fresh? This is the goal of upcoming simulation Life by You, which states it was designed to be "one of the most moddable and open life-simulation games." With zero loading screens, realistic dialogue, a variety of deep creator tools, and a lot of customization options, Life by You could be a breath of fresh air for avid Simmers.

Garden Life: A Cozy Simulator

Garden Life could very well be the most immersive cozy game on this list, as the first-person simulation game focuses less on RPG mechanics, relationships, and community, and more on allowing the player to feel like they are truly curating their own tranquil garden. With absolutely gorgeous visuals (think wrought iron fences and ivy-covered, glass greenhouses) and a relaxing soundtrack, we're anticipating spending a lot of time in this game's captivating world.

Minami Lane

Sometimes managing a whole city can be overwhelming, so why not focus on just a single street? In Minami Lane, you get the chance to plan and decorate your own Japanese-inspired street. Manage small shops and restaurants, attract villagers, and pet cats as you watch your small street grow into part of a vibrant community.

Fields of Mistria

With environments reminiscent of Link to the Past's Hyrule Kingdom and (swoon-worthy) characters who look fresh from your favorite '90s anime, Fields of Mistria is already a very visually-distinct entry in the farm sim genre. To make things more exciting, developer NPC Studio touts the upcoming game as set in a magical world "brimming with possibilities," romance, and nostalgia. All this plus the ability to farm, fish, mine, craft, raise animals, start a family, and fend off foes while exploring ancient ruins makes this one of 2024's most anticipated cozy games.

Moonlight Peaks

Moonlight Peaks is a supernatural farming sim in which you play as a descendant of none other than Count Dracula. As such, your cursed character will be doing a whole lot more than plucking weeds, tilling soil, and wooing their next-door neighbors (but don't worry, you can still do all that too). In addition to all the usual farm antics, you'll be able to cast spells, brew potions, decorate a gothic-style cabin, and cozy up to the town's witches, werewolves, and merfolk to find eternal love.

Chill Town

Looking for something to fill the Animal Crossing-shaped void in your heart? Chill Town looks to be a somewhat more realistic version of Animal Crossing, complete with fishing, bug catching, adorable customization options, and the ability to decorate not only your own cozy home, but the entire town as well. However, Chill Town sets itself apart from the Nintendo classic with its inclusion of pets, some truly adorable animal-vegetable hybrid creatures you can raise, and an ultra-relaxing lo-fi soundtrack.

Wish Upon a Llama

Rather than trying to do it all, Wish Upon a Llama focuses on one aspect of the farm sim genre: raising livestock. And thanks to developer Millionhare Studios' decision to hone in rather than overextend, Wish Upon a Llama seems like it will offer a new level of depth to being a rancher, including a focus on genetics that will encourage players to discover all the various colors, patterns, personalities, and breeds their animals come in. Of course you'll still be able to form friendships, find romance, and decorate your homestead, but capybaras, bunnies, and llamas reign supreme in this upcoming cozy sim.

Ova Magica

Described on Steam as "Stardew Valley meets Pokemon," Ova Magica tasks you with not only tending to a farm while immersing yourself in the quaint village of Clover Town, but raising and battling cute, Slime Rancher-esque creatures as well. With a vibrant art style and plenty of cute husbandos and waifus to date, Ova Magica looks to be a lively entry in the farming sim genre.

Everholm

Looking for a bit more mystery in your cozy game? Everholm might be just what the doctor ordered. Everholm follows Lilly, a young girl suffering from amnesia who sets off on a quest to find both her memories and her missing sister. In the meantime, Lilly chooses to make a home for herself on the strange island of Everholm, where she must farm and form friendships with Everfolks to get to the bottom of some big secrets.

Farm Folks

If the first thing you think when you see Farm Folks is, "Hey, that looks kind of like a farming sim version of Fortnite," I'd be very inclined to agree with you! But while it might be reminiscent visually, it definitely has its own thing going for it. Farm Folks sees players inhabit a tropical island where they can farm and build their own piece of paradise. Based on the updates the team has shared over on Reddit, it looks like it will have a great deal of customization and cutesy critters and decor for players to choose from.

Mirthwood

Based on what we've seen of the game, Mirthwood might be the least "cozy" game on this list. However, it is also unique and one of the most exciting and enchanting, hence its inclusion. Set in a muted medieval world, Mirthwood touts itself as an enchanting, hand-drawn RPG life sim in which you can choose your own backstory and create a peaceful life for yourself and your family. In addition to farming, trading, and Sims-style relationship building, you can also explore the game's large open world, fight off bandits, battle winter and disease, and embark on quests for epic loot.

Wholesome: Out and About

With "wholesome" in the title, it's safe to say this game will be an extremely cozy one. In this 3D adventure game, you get the chance to create your own character to send off on a foraging journey through the woods. When not learning real-world techniques to identify and use wild herbs and flowers, you'll also be responsible for restoring your childhood home and town after a devastating storm and cooking some tasty recipes.

Open Roads

Open Roads follows a mother, Opal, and her daughter Tess as they embark on a roadtrip to dig up family secrets perhaps better left forgotten. As the pair explore the places once near-and-dear to Opal's heart, they'll unearth buried memories and discover more about one another. While this all might sound a little more emotionally profound and somber than cozy, the game promises "classic road trip vibes as you chill in the car en route to your next destination." Add in lush environments, beautiful hand-animated characters, and a star cast of Keri Russell and Kaitlyn Dever, and you have a game we're very excited to play this year.

Critter Cove

It's not often a cozy game is set after the end of the world, but here we are. In Critter Cove, you are tasked with creating a "cozy post-apocalyptic paradise" on an island town. Honeycomb: The World Beyond

Rather than explore islands or a lush countryside, Honeycomb: The World Beyond sends adventurers to the far-off planet Sota7, where they will be tasked with cataloging all the flora and fauna that inhabit it. In addition, you'll get to establish a base, crossbreed plants and animals, craft items, and conduct experiments as you work to survive on this mysterious planet.

Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story

The team behind Graveyard Keeper teaming up with Riot to create a cozy farming sim set in the world of League of Legends is not something we had on our video game bingo card, but we gotta admit it sounds extremely cool. This adorable pixel-art title tasks players with exploring the Bandlewoods and restoring portals so they can reunite with their friends in Bandle City after a party-gone-wrong leaves them stranded. Regardless of whether you're a League fan looking for more lore or a newcomer to the series, it seems like this game will make for some cozy company.

Tales of the Shire

Truth be told, I have no idea how it took this long for someone to make a cozy game set in The Lord of the Rings' Shire, but I am thrilled there's one on the way. While we don't have much information on what this game has in store for us--just a brief teaser that was revealed late last year--we're already excited for the possibilities and overall tone of the game.

Little Kitty, Big City

Untitled Goose Game meets Oliver And Company in Little Kitty, Big City, the debut game from Double Dagger Studio. Billed as a wholesome exploration game, Little Kitty, Big City is all about helping an adorable kitten find its way back home after getting lost in, well, a big city. You can explore, make friends, wear cute costumes, and cause serious chaos in this colorful adventure title.

Magical Delicacy

Magical Delicacy combines sophisticated pixel art with platforming and cooking to create a unique dish. In it, you play as a young witch named Flora who must navigate the harbor town of Grat and create a name for herself and her small shop. When not tending to your apothecary, you also get to face off against rival covens, invent new concoctions, grow plants, and get to know Grat's townsfolk.

Mika and the Witch's Mountain

If you've ever wished Kiki's Delivery Service were a video game, you'll probably be extremely interested in the cute and colorful Mika and the Witch's Mountain. This fantasy adventure game follows a young witch named Mika who is tasked with delivering packages to the townspeople of a small island. You'll gain rewards based on the condition that packages are delivered in, as well as learn more about the town and its residents as you soar through the air on broomstick.

Tales of Seikyu

Tales of Seikyu is a Japanese-inspired farming sim that sees your farmer construct a lush safe haven for "legendary creatures from the world of yokai." However, as you restore the once-abandoned farm you inhabit, you'll gain yokai powers of your own, allowing you to turn into a bull to plow your fields or soar through the skies as a raven. You'll also get the chance to unveil hidden stories, find romance, and team up with friends for a cooperative experience.

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time

The next entry in Level-5's Fantasy Life series, The Girl Who Steals Time, combines time-travel with the series' RPG life-simulation formula to create a unique game that tasks players with building up a ruined island by traveling 1,000 years into its past. As you go back and forth between time periods, you'll be able to choose an occupation, befriend villagers, and craft new items as you build your budding village.

Cozynauts

In Cozynauts, you are in charge of creating your own colony after the corporation you work for sends you to a desolate planet in search of new materials. What begins as a slow, grueling process of collecting resources by hand and upgrading your base turns into a full-blown operation as you form production lines, create cozy amenities, and create a true community. This game also features a co-op mode, allowing you to fish, dungeoneer, and adventure with a friend as well.

Momento

Momento is a calming point-and-click game where the items you hang on to whilst doing your spring cleaning or moving homes impact the life you ultimately lead. From childhood through adolescence and adulthood, the paintings, plushies, books, and everyday objects that surround you go on to shape the person you will become, taking you through love, loss, heartbreak, success, and all of life's ups and downs. Naturally, this game has multiple endings and no wrong answers, giving players a lot of freedom to create the life they want.

Europa

In Europa, you play as an android named Zee who sets out in search of what happened to the very last human. While that might sound like a somber plot, the world Zee explores on Jupiter's most famous moon is anything but, with beautiful vistas, glades, and stunning remnants of a fallen utopia. According to its Steam page, Europa will offer "an intimate story about growing up and humanity’s relationship with nature," alongside free-flowing movement, hidden dangers, and puzzles.

Tiny Glade

Tiny Glade is a gorgeous, free-form building game that offers relaxation in place of combat, management, or even narrative. In it, you build medieval townhomes and castles from the ground up, forming great stone barricades, spiraling towers, and elegant archways using intuitive controls with plenty of customization options. It's a low-stakes, relaxing sandbox game that looks ideal if you're the type to spend hours building your perfect house in The Sims.

Neva

Neva is the next game from developer Nomada Studio, who you might know from its 2018 hit Gris. Much like Gris, Neva looks to be an emotionally-charged adventure that follows a woman and a curious young wolf club who are bound to one another following "a traumatic encounter with dark forces." As the world falls apart around them, the duo must band together and show courage to prevail through the darkness and make it to the other side.

The Gecko God
