No Rest For The Wicked - Crafting Explained

No Rest For The Wicked - Crafting Explained https://ift.tt/FWRkbUG

You'll find tools that let you gather lots of raw materials for crafting early on in No Rest for the Wicked. There's just one problem: The game doesn't really tell you how to use them. As in other games, crafting requires you to have the right special equipment, like a bench, anvil, or campfire. The trouble is, many of those items aren't available right away and require a little effort to unlock them.

Here's everything you need to know to get started crafting in No Rest for the Wicked. You can finally start using up that heap of wood, clay, and coal you've been carrying around for hours.

Bring Vendors To Sacrament

Before you can start crafting, you must make your way to Sacrament, where you'll find a market full of vendors. That'll include the blacksmith you met on your way into town. Eventually, the market will also include crafting stations, but you'll have to do some work to get them set up.

In the meantime, it's worth completing a few side quests around Sacrament to bring additional vendors to the market. The Potion quest will bring in a potion seller, while the Innkeeper quest will bring in a cook.

Visit The Builder And Upgrade Vendor Stations

Once you've set up in Sacrament and visited the Rookery, you can talk to Danos, the town's builder. He has a list of upgrades he can make to Sacrament, including improvements to all the vendor stands. Upgrading most of the vendor stands to the second level adds their unique crafting stations--for instance, the blacksmith's stand will gain an anvil you can use to make armor and a furnace where you can smelt metals.

All of the upgrades in the builder's first round require 10 Pine and 5 Copper Ore, which you can reliably find all over the Shallows, Mariner's Keep, and Orban Glades. Once you purchase an upgrade from Danos, it'll take an hour of real time for the construction to be completed, so you'll still have to wait a while. Gathering those resources and upgrading the vendor stands early will allow you to unlock crafting quickly.

Get Yourself A House

Gathering all the upgrade materials to boost vendor stalls can be a slow process, but you can also buy your own crafting benches from around Sacrament. The only trouble is, you can't place crafting benches just anywhere--you need a house to put them in. Unlocking the ability to buy a house in Sacrament is an arduous undertaking in itself, requiring completing a tough and lengthy story quest.

To get the ability to buy a house in Sacrament, you need to complete the "Of Rats and Raiders" quest--check out our home-buying guide for more details. Once that's done, three houses will become available to buy in town at different prices, but they're all pretty expensive: one's 30 Silver, one's 25, and one's 20.

Buy Crafting Benches

As a homeowner, you'll be able to acquire more crafting benches to fill your house with, allowing you to centralize all your crafting needs in one place. This way, you won't need to constantly visit the market or upgrade all the stalls just to access the ability to make weapons, potions, or other essentials.

You can purchase crafting benches from Danos the Builder. They get expensive, so you'll probably want to prioritize--the anvil tends to be the most useful, followed by the stove so you can cook more advanced meals.

Make Chests For Storage

No Rest for the Wicked is absolutely brimming with crafting materials that you won't necessarily know how to use when you find them. Once your pockets are full, you can't pick up anything else unless you discard some things, which permanently destroys them. This gets annoying when you're trying to grab mushrooms or other ingredients you need to cook food, which is essential to maintaining your health while you're out on an adventure. Thus, it's a good idea to have somewhere to dump all the things you find when you're out in the world.

A workbench will allow you to make furniture for your house, including chests to store things in. Danos will sell you one, or you can use the one at Whittacker's crafting shack in the market once you've upgraded it. Note that furniture requires some refined materials, though--you'll need to smelt some Iron Ingots at a furnace and make Spruce Planks at a sawmill. As with the other crafting benches, the deal for both is the same: You can either buy your own for your house or upgrade the blacksmith and crafting shack to use theirs.

Buy and Find New Recipes

You'll likely have found additional cooking recipes in your travels, but crafting an item requires finding its schematic in addition to the right workbenches. There are three main ways to get new schematics for crafting: From random drops and treasure chests out in the world; from vendors in Sacrament's market; and as rewards for completing bounties and challenges.

The market vendors have a few recipes and schematics when you first get to town, but upgrading the vendor shacks in the market will add more advanced stuff to their inventories, including schematics.

You can accept bounties and challenges from Captain Randolph, the guard captain near the town square. Completing these bonus objectives dishes out lots of different rewards, often including recipes and schematics. You should complete these whenever possible anyway because they're a quick and easy way to earn money and advance while you're exploring the world and working on other objectives.

Keep Your Gear Repaired

Durability is a major issue in No Rest for the Wicked and something you want to keep an eye on. Whenever you die, you don't lose anything you're carrying or any currency, like you might in a soulslike, but the durability of all your gear is reduced. That means that repeatedly going up against a boss or getting pummeled in an area that's too tough for you can vastly reduce the effectiveness of your weapons and tools, making it difficult to withstand tough enemies or gather crafting materials.

Visit Fillmore the blacksmith in the Sacrament market to get all your gear repaired for a modest fee. You can also repair your stuff in the field with Repair Powder. Durability is easy to lose track of, but it's essential to keeping yourself alive and your equipment operating well as you make your way through Sacra.
