Magic abilities can burn, blast, and utterly break your foes in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. With many sorceries and incantations to choose from, you might be wondering which ones are ideal in the long run. Here's our guide on the best spells in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

The best spells in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Our Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree best spells guide has 10 magic-based abilities that you definitely want to obtain during your playthrough. While this particular article focuses solely on what makes each spell really viable, we do have other guides that discuss their locations in detail:

Gravitational Missile

  • Type: Sorcery - Offensive
  • Attribute requirement: Int 36
  • FP cost: 18
  • Effect: Fires a bolt of gravity that pulls in enemies.

If you manage to gain access to the northeast region (Scaduview), then the Gravitational Missile can be yours upon defeating the Fallenstar Beast. What makes it great is that it can travels for quite a distance, pulling in enemies before exploding.

Fleeting Microcosm

  • Type: Sorcery - Offensive
  • Attribute requirement: 42
  • FP cost: 30
  • Effect: Conjures a microcosm that pulses in a single wave, before disappearing in a burst.

The Fleeting Microcosm is sold by an NPC named Ymir, and it becomes available once you've completed a few tasks as part of the Finger Ruins quest line. The initial pulse itself barely deals damage, but the massive explosion afterward is enough to take out many hostiles.

Heal From Afar

  • Type: Incantation - Support
  • Attribute requirement: Fai 18
  • FP cost: 45
  • Effect: Greatly heals HP for distant allies that the spell reaches.

There's certainly a place for Heal From Afar among the best spells in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. It goes without saying that playing co-op means that more players can help you. As such, Heal From Afar becomes invaluable since it allows you to restore the HP of your allies (i.e. tanky or melee-oriented players), while you remain safe at the back.

Aspects of the Crucible: Thorns

  • Type: Incantation - Offensive
  • Attribute requirement: 27
  • FP cost: 20
  • Effect: Creates a mass of bristling thorns at the back to scour the area.

You'll receive this reward once you beat the Golden Hippopotamus guarding the main entrance of Shadow Keep. It's very useful when facing packs of enemies, since it covers you in sharp thorns that eventually hit those around you.

Ghostflame Breath

  • Type: Incantation - Offensive
  • Attribute requirement: Fai 23 and Arc 15
  • FP cost: 36
  • Effect: Channels a dragon to spew Ghostflame Breath

The Ghostflame Breath deserves to be on a list of the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree best DLC spells. When cast, you briefly spawn a dragon head that belches a torrent of spectral flame in a cone, damaging a wide area in front of you. You can obtain it by exchanging three Dragon Hearts at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion in Jagged Peak.

Giant Golden Arc

  • Type: Incantation - Offensive
  • Attribute requirement: Fai 34
  • FP cost: 24
  • Effect: Releases a giant golden arc with a swing of the arm.

The Giant Golden Arc (and its Golden Arcs counterpart) are certainly viable for faith-based builds. You can repeatedly cast the magic ability to create a crescent-moon-shaped projectile that covers a wide area.

This can be yours once you can access the Recluses River/Abyssal Woods. Once you spawn in the Ruins of Unte, you'll have to defeat the sleeping Furnace Golem. Doing so grants you access to the interior of the ruins.

Knight's Lightning Spear

  • Type: Incantation - Offensive
  • Attribute requirement: Fai 36
  • FP cost: 36
  • Effect: Hurls a lightning spear while firing additional spears from ancient dragon crests.

If you're exploring the Scorpion River Catacombs, be on the lookout for an area where you have to cross a bridge, all while a Death Blight Eye Statue watches from across a chasm. Once you get past this structure, look for a ledge to your right, then make your way to the small room at the back. Once you get this spell, you're going to love using it, since its charged cast generates multiple electrocuting projectiles.

Furious Blade of Ansbach

  • Type: Incantation - Offensive
  • Attribute requirement: Fai 19 and Arc 27
  • FP cost: 18
  • Effect Cleaves through enemies with bloodflame blade summoned from the hand.

We feel that the Furious Blade of Ansbach is one of the best spells in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The reason being that it's a multi-hit move that causes you to advance in a flurry. This can be used in conjunction with the Obsidian Lamina, which we think is one of the best weapons in the DLC, as it has its own backstep and combo sequence. Note that you can obtain these rewards upon completing the Ansbach and Freyja quest line.

Land of Shadow

  • Type: Incantation - Offensive
  • Attribute requirement: Fai 58
  • FP cost: 40
  • Effect: Fires a hail of golden projectiles toward foes.

The Land of Shadow is one of two possible rewards that you can get when you exchange the Remembrance of the Shadowed Sunflower, which is dropped by the Scadutree Avatar boss. The casting animation is rather slow, but you're going to start cheering once you see multiple projectiles flying toward your targets.

Light of Miquella

  • Type: Incantation - Offensive
  • Attribute requirement: 72
  • FP cost: 48
  • Effect: Annihilates foes with a pillar of light.

One of the best DLC spells in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree comes from the final boss. To be clear, this great foe has three potential rewards, though we feel that the Light of Miquella is the ideal option. This is primarily due to damage potential: the first instance comes from the initial blast, which covers a wide area. That's followed by a holy lance bombardment from the sky, leading to multiple hits.

That does it for our guide on the best spells in Elden RIng: Shadow of the Erdtree. There are many rewards that you can find in this new realm, and you can visit our articles regarding the best DLC weapons and best DLC talismans.
