At the domestic box office, the film opened in seventh place and earned just $3.2 million, the lowest to date for the film franchise. In comparison, it's far below the $20.1 million US opening weekend of 2006's Silent Hill and the reviled Silent Hill: Revelation, which earned $8 million during its domestic opening. Opening on 2,000 screens across the US, reviews for Return to Silent Hill haven't been flattering. It currently has a Metascore of 33 on GameSpot's sister site Metacritic--based on 13 reviews--while the user score sits at a slightly higher 4.4. During San Diego Comic-Con, a trailer for The Penguin was released. The upcoming spin-off of The Batman will be a limited series branded as an HBO Original. The Batman's Colin Farrell is reprising his role as Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot, and where others see disaster, the Penguin sees an opportunity to take control of the criminal underworld. But as shown in the new trailer, Oz has a significant adversary in his way.

Since Carmine Falcone was killed in The Batman, his daughter--Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti)--believes that she's the natural choice to take over the crime family. That puts her at odds against Oz, and for the first time, we see that Sophia was apparently institutionalized in Arkham Asylum. It also suggests that she may be a vigilante killer known as the Hangman.

The trailer also establishes two of Oz's key relationships. He's taking care of his mentally ill mother, Francis Cobb (Deirdre O'Connell), while also mentoring his new driver, Victor Aguilar (Rhenzy Feliz). Oz even seems to genuinely like Victor, which will put him in danger. Victor seems especially afraid of what Sophia could do to them.
