Xbox Kept At Least One Big Promise In Its Most Tumultuous Year Ever https://ift.tt/vSjIod0 When it drastically increased the price of Game Pass Ultimate on October 1, 2025, Xbox made a promise in a now-deleted Xbox Wire post: “Ultimate subscribers now get access to over 75 day-one releases a year.”  In the year since, a lot has changed at Xbox. It has hired a new CEO, laid off thousands of developers, spun off several studios, and scaled back its multiplatform plans. This past year has been one of pivots and changes in strategy for Xbox, so I wondered if that day-one release commitment for Game Pass Ultimate fell by the wayside.  Over the past year, I have tracked every title added to Game Pass Ultimate the day it launched. As of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy’s launch on August 27, 2026, Xbox has met the goal it set for Game Pass Ultimate content last year. The rollout for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's new Christmas action movie, Red One, hasn't exactly been smooth. Earlier this year, there were reports that Johnson caused problems by not showing up on set as scheduled and by behaving obnoxiously. But now that the film is just under two months away, all of that bad press can fall by the wayside because the new trailer for Red One is so over-the-top ridiculous that it just might work.

The trailer largely focuses on former Captain America actor Chris Evans, who portrays bounty hunter Jack O'Malley. Jack is so good at his job that the North Pole's security team, as led by Callum Drift (Johnson) and Zoe (Lucy Liu), has forcibly recruited him to help them find Santa Claus (J. K. Simmons).

While the trailer doesn't definitively reveal who was the mastermind behind Santa's abduction, it does feature some bizarre winter-themed villains including evil snowmen. There's also a talking polar bear on Team North Pole, and Callum reveals that all toy stores are secretly linked by Christmas magic... or something along those lines.
