Mina The Hollower Traps You In The Bayou (To Teach You That You Can Get Out)

Mina The Hollower Traps You In The Bayou (To Teach You That You Can Get Out) https://ift.tt/ReSImk2 Mina the Hollower is very visually similar to classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color Zelda games like Link's Awakening and the Oracle duology. But mechanically it's significantly different, and Yacht Club discovered the distinction ran the risk of confusing players when it started putting the game in front of playtesters. As a result, it had to find clever ways to send a signal to players about this game's different expectations. In an interview with GameSpot, Yacht Club's David D'Angelo said that players often expected Zelda-like progression, including specialized equipment to solve puzzles. That isn't really how Mina works, however--the world is wide open, and you can go (mostly) anywhere you want right from the start. "The biggest thing we were worried about is that in a lot of ways it's not like a Zelda game in that you're not getting the H...

Preorders For Exploration-Focused Action RPG Hell Is Us Are Now Live

Preorders For Exploration-Focused Action RPG Hell Is Us Are Now Live https://ift.tt/QAmJFu1

There's no shortage of open-world souls-like games these days, but Hell Is Us--which launches for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 4--puts a new twist on the action-RPG genre by emphasizing immersive exploration--there's no map, waypoints, or quest markers, so you'll need to learn the in-game environments to navigate the world. If that premise intrigues you, you can preorder the game now in multiple versions, including a $60 physical standard edition and $80 Deluxe Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X. While there are no in-game preorder bonus items announced for Hell Is Us, those who grab the Deluxe Edition will get three-day early access to the full game starting September 1, plus a bunch of digital extras exclusive to this version--so consider grabbing it if you're eager to try out the new sci-fi action RPG.

Set in the early '90s in the fictionalized hermit nation of Hadea, players take on the role of Remi. Returning to his nation of birth, Remi is aiming to learn more about his past and find his parents, but that's easier said than done when the landscape around him is being torn apart by a phenomenon called the Calamity, which has introduced violent creatures to the country.

What sets Hell Is Us apart is that it refuses to hold your hand, as you'll need to pay attention during conversations, gather clues, and use that knowledge to chart your own path forward. "Some players will thrive on the level of player agency Hell is Us offers, while others will butt their heads against it and quit in frustration," Dan Ryckert wrote in GameSpot's Hell Is Us preview. "I'm leaning toward the former--this is a game filled with bold, confident, deliberate design decisions on the part of Rogue Factor, and it'll be interesting to see how players react when it releases September 4."
