How To Complete All What If Rifts In Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

How To Complete All What If Rifts In Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced https://ift.tt/QZ4hqC6

Are you curious about the Rifts in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced? Unlike the original, which also had a modern-day story, Resynced presents a different narrative arc. Think of these Rifts as “What If” scenarios, alternate outcomes that would’ve occurred had characters taken a new path in their lives. Of course, not everything is as it seems, so you still need to be wary. Our guide has all the info that you need, but be ready for a few spoilers, too.

The “What If” Rift activities in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

Rifts, which previously appeared in Assassin's Creed Shadows, offer optional quests that you can tackle. The Rifts in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced become available as you progress through certain points in the campaign.

When you find one, interact with it to pass through. You’ll then meet an AI entity named Ego, who’ll guide you through each Animus segment. Be ready to tackle all sorts of tasks, including platforming, stealth, and combat/boss fights.

Ego is certainly creepy.

Rift #1: Wayward Souls - What if Edward kept his promise to Caroline?

  • Unlock condition: Complete Sequence 04: Overrun and Outnumbered.
  • Coordinates: 825,429 - On the southern coast of Great Inagua. It’s easier to reach this location if you sail to the south of the island instead of taking the long route through the jungle.

Rift #1: Wayward Souls - Tasks and reward

The first What If Rift in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has some rather straightforward tasks:

  • For the most part, you need to carry a chest, which represents the wealth that Edward Kenway has accumulated. At certain points, you need to drop it to interact with wheels. Don’t dawdle around because your health will slowly get depleted whenever you’re not carrying the chest. However, once it’s back in your hands, your health should get restored back to full.
  • A bit later, you have to dive straight down a chasm, which leads to an on-rails--i.e. roller coaster-like segment. Avoid the jellyfish as you pass through the openings until you reach the end.
  • At the conclusion, you’ll see a glimpse of what life would’ve been like for Edward had he returned to Caroline like he promised.

For your efforts, you’ll receive the Lock of Hair. This is a rare trinket that restores some health after a perfect parry.

Carry the box of wealth to stay alive (left) and be ready to deftly dodge whenever you're forced to swim (right).

Rift #2: Wayward Desires - What if Blackbeard accepted the king’s pardon to rule Nassau?

  • Unlock condition: Complete Sequence 08: Do Not Go Gently.
  • Coordinates: 604,784 - This Rift is on a small island just north of Nassau.
The location of the Wayward Desires Rift.

Rift #2: Wayward Desires - Platforming and combat

This Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Rift is all about combat, as you move from one derelict ship to the next, all set against the backdrop of a gargantuan maelstrom. Your spectral opponents can shoot you from across wide gaps. Try to dodge whenever you can, since their shots deal a lot of damage. There are also areas where you can take control of a swivel gun. Doing so lets you blast your enemies from farther away.

Note that there’s also an on-rails area where you swim past shipwrecks in the giant whirlpool. Make sure you avoid the explosive red barrels that are scattered all over the place.

Blow up explosive barrels to clear out ghostly enemies.

Rift #2: Wayward Desires - Blackbeard boss fight and reward

Blackbeard’s specter shows up halfway through the Animus Rift, though he’ll disappear shortly thereafter. Much later, though, you’ll face him aboard his ship in the center of the maelstrom. Blackbeard periodically throws exploding canisters that spew green flames in a wide area. He also summons spectral pirates that can prove to be a nuisance.

Use your pistol quickshots to whittle down his guard meter. Then, be ready to perform a takedown when prompted.

After defeating Blackbeard, climb atop the mast and replace the Jolly Roger with the British flag. You’ll see what could’ve transpired had Blackbeard ruled Nassau at the behest of the king. You’ll also receive the Queen Anne’s Revenge Wheel, a legendary wheel cosmetic for the Jackdaw.

Beware of Blackbeard's attacks and be ready to counter.

Rift #3: Wayward Minds - What if Mary Read quit being an assassin to raise her child?

  • Unlock condition: Complete Sequence 11: Everything Is Permitted.
  • Coordinates: 14,559 - Make your way to the northwestern part of Sacrifice Island.
The location of the Wayward Minds Rift.

Rift #3: Wayward Minds - Combat sections

This What If Rift in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced combines both combat and stealth. Initially, you have to eliminate spectral soldiers that spawn as you make your way through various areas:

  • Snipers are extremely deadly in this section. Try to shoot the explosive barrels to make quick work of several hostiles.
  • The next sections have more enemies, though killing them causes Ego to guilt-trip you for your deeds--i.e. Killing a certain specter tells you that that person “took care of an ailing father” or that they were “two days away from being reunited with their child.”
  • When crossing the chasm, you have to jump back and forth ropes just as the snipers are about to shoot.
  • In the last area, there’s a sniper that you could assassinate, but doing so prevents you from advancing further. As such, you have to cross the bridge without assassinating the target.

Ego will guilt-trip you about your actions (left). Oh, and be ready to jump across ropes whenever snipers get a bead on you (right).

Rift #3: Wayward Minds - Stealth sections and reward

This part is all about stealth. You can’t assassinate anyone since you don’t have weapons. Oh, and if you get seen by enemies or the spotlights, your avatar will get instantly killed.

  • From the haystack, crouch-walk to the right past the spotlight and climb to the roof of the barn.
  • Wait for the patrolling specter to turn the other way and jump down the left side of the barn. Then, sneak through the reeds until you’re able to climb up the ledge to the right.
  • You should be at the right-hand side of the courtyard. Move to the reeds/flower bed to the left, which triggers a checkpoint in case you perish.
  • Wait for the guard to walk to the right, then move forward to the next set of flower beds. Keep advancing while taking note of the movement of the spotlight and the last remaining guard.

Once you go through the gate, you’ll find yourself along a narrow path. A beam of light will suddenly materialize and move toward you. You have to run and jump all the way to the end.

After this, you’ll be prompted to “Renounce the Creed” while interacting with Mary Read’s silhouette. When you’re done, you’ll receive the Don’t Forget Your Old Shipmate sea shanty collectible.

Be extra careful while going through this stealth section.

Rift #4: True Purpose - What if you decided to become a Templar?

  • Unlock condition: Complete the campaign, the epilogue, and the three previous Rifts.
  • Coordinates: 363,176 - Sail to the small island east of Misteriosa.
The location of the True Purpose Rift.

Rift #4: True Purpose - Combat section

The final What If Rift in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is the culmination of all the other segments. You find yourself in a theater where Ego talks about how things could’ve gone better for Kenway and other characters. Then, you’re interrupted by a certain entity in the form of a Jackdaw. This causes the options menu to appear. The initial choices are “Nothing Is True” and “Everything Is Permitted,” though you won’t be able to select either of these. However, if you wait a bit, you’ll see the third option–“Fight Back”--which you should pick.

Start by taking out the hostiles in the theater and at the backstage area. Then, climb up the rafters and eliminate the remaining enemies.

The bird will give you a fighting chance after a glitch occurs.

Rift #4: True Purpose - Ego boss fight

Continue along the path to see a marvelous sight: Several iconic locations from previous Assassin’s Creed games, all recreated in the Animus. At the end of the path, you’ll face Ego: Emotion Agent. This is a two-phase encounter and the boss has the following attacks:

  • Whirlwind - Ego spins an axe around at an arc.
  • Ground Pound - Ego smashes the ground, creating a shockwave in a circular area.
  • Ground Fracture - Ego smashes the ground, causing rupturing spikes to cascade outward.
  • Anomaly Shield - The boss is surrounded by four blocks that deal damage to you if you get close.
  • Searing Stones - During the second phase, the boss will toss five rock projectiles toward your avatar. This is usually cast in conjunction with Anomaly Shield.
  • Chaos Beam - A sphere appears above the boss. It will then blast a laser beam thrice.

Look for opportunities to attack Ego in melee, such as at the end of the Whirlwind or Ground Pound animations. Although it’s a bit risky, you could also close the gap while Anomaly Shield is active, swinging away at your target while taking the hits from the blocks. And, of course, you can use your pistol quickshots to slowly deplete the boss’ guard meter. Once the meter is fully depleted, you should definitely go for a quick takedown maneuver.

Watch out for Ego's devastating attacks.

Rifts final reward: Dark Animus Corsair Pistol Swords and Synchronization

After vanquishing Ego, take one final look at your surroundings to see some epic scenes. Then, dive down the chasm to leave the Animus.

For your efforts, you’ll be rewarded with the Dark Animus Corsair Pistol Swords, a legendary weapon that has an amazing perk. When you hold down the button for a heavy strike, you’ll fire two gunshots at no ammo cost. This makes it one of the best weapons in the game since it effectively grants infinite ammo, which makes it perfect for the absolute bedlam during boarding actions.

Lastly, don’t forget to check the Animus menu. Go to the Synchronization tab and claim your 300x keys for the Dark Animus objective.

Now, this is a really cool weapon.
