You Can Grab Sonic X Shadow Generations Cheaper Than Steam’s Fall Sale, But You Gotta Go Fast
After years of being a Sonic fan and suffering gut punch after gut punch with every new entry in the franchise, the blue blur has finally been on a roll. Sorry, that joke was awful, but it is true—the movies have been overwhelmingly successful, Sonic Frontiers was an interesting take on the formula, and while the latest “typical” game is a remaster in some ways, Sonic X Shadow Generations is one of the greatest Sonic experiences in years. Thankfully, you can skip past Steam’s Green Hills and get straight into the best part, as Fanatical has it cheaper than Valve’s Fall sale right now.
The “Sonic” part of Sonic X Shadow Generations is the familiar part. It is functionally the same as the 2011 original, seeing modern Sonic and classic Sonic combine forces against an entity called the Time Eater. With their friends scattered across different eras, the pair race off to save the world. The new version has improved visuals and some adjusted cutscenes, but the general consensus in our Sonic Generations review way back at launch remains consistent with this latest take.
What is more interesting, however, is the new Shadow Generations story. Running (pun intended) parallel with the story of Sonic Generations, this new campaign sees Shadow deal with his old rival, Black Doom. After being stuck in the White Space, the villain grants Shadow some new abilities in the form of Doom Powers, which make elements of the familiar Sonic-style levels even more engaging. Sadly, he doesn’t have his guns this time.
As someone who fell in love with the edginess of Shadow back when I was a wee little boy, his guns being gone doesn’t matter to me. In fact, Shadow is arguably way cooler now than he has ever been, and his new abilities make the standard Sonic affair even more exciting. Shadow Generations has only added to the 2011 original, and now I wouldn’t be able to play the 15-year-old version of the game because it would feel empty without the black-and-red hedgehog.
Right now, the game is at a massive discount on Steam. Well, let me tell you, my friend: Dr. Eggman isn’t getting my money, and he shouldn’t get yours either. You can get Sonic X Shadow Generations for just $13.49 / £12.14 at Fanatical, meaning you still get a Steam key and the same experience, but without having to pay more on Valve’s storefront. Haha, suckers.
Although I’m still waiting for my Sonic Heroes remaster, SEGA. Where is it? I can only forgive you for so long.
