Final Fantasy Resonance Is Inheriting Two Of Brave Exvius’ Coolest Features, Minus The Gacha
Final Fantasy Resonance is the first game in the franchise to get the HD-2D treatment, as this new spin-off based on Final Fantasy Brave Exvius translates the mobile title into a PC and console adventure. It also looks like two of the best parts of the game will be coming along for the ride: guest characters from other Final Fantasy games and their impressive CG-animated ultimate attacks. It's also kind of funny to see Cloud in action, as the previous trailer for the game asked viewers to imagine a world where Final Fantasy 7 didn't change the course of the franchise with its advanced 3D graphics.
In a new trailer, Square Enix showed off how players will be able to call upon the power of Visions, heroes from other worlds and timelines. Final Fantasy 7's stoic protagonist, Cloud Strife, is one such ally you can summon if players can find and "resonate" with his Vision, Square Enix says. Once you do, you can unleash his Omnislash attack on an enemy, which is accompanied by a slick animation sequence crafted by Square Enix's CG animation team.
This looks like a neat way to bring some of the gacha elements from Final Fantasy Resonance from Brave Exvius into the game, without having to fork out cash to obtain a new character. In Brave Exvius, players could earn and burn through tickets to add warriors like Cloud to their party, but due to his rarity, you needed a lot of ticket pulls to stand a chance of obtaining him. Higher-grade tickets offered better chances if used in specific draw categories, but as you'd expect from a mobile gacha game, you had the best odds if you forked out some cash to purchase a stack of tickets.
Characters like Cloud were sought after for high-level endgame activities, thanks to their high stats and even higher damage numbers when they were properly trained up. Square Enix's description for the trailer mentions that Cloud can be found within the Sanctum of Light, and if there are several more of these familiar dungeons located in Resonance, it's likely that they'll also have a few more Visions to recruit. Brave Exvius had no shortage of unlockable Visions, as you could form a party that included Final Fantasy heavyweights like Cloud, Squall, and Tidus, just to name a few.
Seeing those beloved characters in HD-2D might convince Square Enix to resurrect more of its dead mobile franchises in that style if the game proves popular--or use it to finally remake Final Fantasy 6.
